Shopping on a Budget

So let’s talk about one of my all-time favorite things: SHOPPING!

I do love shopping, but I am also so cheap at the same time. It kills me aaaaaand my husband HAHA! So to make myself feel better about shopping, and to be nice to our wallets, I have developed a few methods to help keep the spending to a minimum without forgoing shopping. Here are some of the best tips that I have found that help me personally to save money.

  • Coupons, coupons, and more coupons.
    • No, I don’t mean that you have to clip coupons from your Sunday paper for 3 hours every week. A lot of companies are adding coupons online now, and some even electronic that you can add online or through an app. You can use this for various companies. For instance, some grocery stores allow you to ‘load’ coupons on to your membership card/account with them.
    • Another key note with coupons is to watch for email sign-ups online that offer coupons. If you see a coupon that is offered for new members or when you sign up to receive emails – take the coupon! You can always unsubscribe from the email list later. Or continue to receive emails and you could potentially receive even more coupons later!
  • Try money saving websites first.
    • Groupon.com is awesome for getting deals and discounts/coupons on items, things to do, beauty, restaurants, and more. It is truly amazing and becoming a member rakes in major discounts!
    • Raise.com is wonderful for gift cards! Raise includes discounts for up to 30% off from many (and I do mean MANY) popular stores. Plus, if you sign up for their email list, they occasionally send out even better discounts for gift cards. Not only can you buy gift cards, but you can also sell them, so you could have even more money for your other shopping needs!
  • Second hand.
    • Thrift Stores are wonderful places to get even name-brands for super cheap.
    • Yard sales and garage sales make for an adventure/road trip and an exciting hunt for deep discounts on items.
  • Weekly ads.
    • My favorite store to keep up with, as far as weekly sales, is Hobby Lobby, and if you love home decor, too then you’re probably aware of their sales as well. Hobby Lobby runs sales and alternates what is on sale every-other week. When things go on sale, depending on what the category is, it could be up to 50% off! If I know that I want a specific piece of wall art and it isn’t on sale this week, I wait until the next week to ensure I only pay half.
    • This tip doesn’t necessarily only apply to home decor either, you can watch weekly ads for grocery stores, home improvement stores, etc. I know that this should be a given, but honestly I feel that most of the time people forget to still look for sales the ‘old-fashioned’ way.
  • Shop smarter.
    • Jane.com is the most adorable online boutique! They have gorgeous seasonal decor, clothing, gifts, personalized home decor, and SO much more for such a lower price. If you’ve never visited Jane, I 100% recommend it.
    • I am personally in a Facebook group that is specifically designed for money saving tips and deals for online shopping. The most common links are from Amazon but it does include other websites as well. I would encourage everyone to try to join at least one online group like this. It has truly offered so many deals that I would have never looked for personally, but I am so glad that I was able to take advantage of them!
    • I also would encourage to join loyalty programs of any places that you frequently shop. No, you don’t have to sign up for their credit card, but join the mailing list of a store that you shop at often. You don’t have to do this for every store, but I would encourage it for your favorite store(s). They may send notices of sales, random discounts, and even coupons for birthdays occasionally.

I completely understand that these tips may not be for everyone, this is simply how I personally save money. Trust me, I don’t use all of these every single time that I shop, but I can most certainly tell a difference when I do. Who doesn’t want to feel good about the deals they’ve gotten after a full day of shopping?!

I would like to also state that comparing prices is something common that I believe people over look. Always try to compare prices and make sure that you are getting the best deal that you can. I understand if you are out and don’t want to make different stops, but when online shopping you should ALWAYS make sure that you are getting the best deal. That’s doesn’t necessarily mean that you always have to look at the price tag of the exact item either. Always check the shipping amount and again, see if there are any coupons offered. Make sure you’re checking all aspects to truly determine the best deal.

I hope that this has helped at least one person, and maybe encouraged others to cut back on their spending as well! Please let me know if you have another money saving trick as well. I’m always interested to see how I can shop more!

I do want to add that I am in no way affiliated with any website that was linked above and this is not an ad. I truly just enjoy my shopping experiences with each company!
